Once you have cut, carved, and manipulated your clay into the perfect design, you will need to finish off your work the right way: with varnishes, glazes, and sealants. You will need these products in order to properly complete your work so that you have something that will live up to the vision you had in mind initially. These materials will provide both a practical and aesthetic benefit to your projects by sealing in your work, and creating a particular finish. Sealing your projects with the right products can essentially lock in all of your hard work and secure the design you have at the surface of your clay pieces.

They can also provide the finish you want for your projects, either all over the piece, or in more targeted locations. As you gently brush on your varnish, you can apply a matte formulation to the areas you want to look more natural and subdued, and a glossy glaze or varnish to an area that you want to shine and stand out more.
